Dear all,

You must be registered to comment, but please do help New Orleans by logging in and starting a rollicking discussion on the Huffington Post. The article features Levees.Org as the expert on flooding.

MRGO opponents should also be concerned about the following meeting happening tonight Wednesday, Nov. 12th at 7PM.

PLEASE READ THE INFO BELOW! There is a meeting about the Industrial Canal Lock TONIGHT! The Corps of Engineers is planning to dump TOXIC sediment removed from this project into ST. BERNARD PARISH just north of BAYOU BIENVENUE. Do we want toxins to leach into the bayou? And let's not even think about what would happen in the event of a hurricane and flooding!

The meeting is at Martin Luther King, Jr. Charter School at 1617 Caffin Avenue at 7PM-9PM. There is an open house from 6-7PM. Please attend! (fyi:It is common for these kinds of meetings to happen on Wednesday nights because a lot of people are going to church).

The following information was from an article written by Mark Schleifstein in The Times-Picayune, Wednesday October 15, 2008. The title of the article was "The Industrial Canal lock price tag now estimated at $1.3 billion". In it he says:" Sediment removed from the channel would be tested for contaminants. Material that fails the tests would be placed in a disposal area in St. Bernard Parish just north of Bayou Bienvenue and just east of the Orleans Parish line. More than 3.3 million cubic yards of mixed sediment and water would be put in that cell."

Please spread the word!

Thank you,
Linda
